Summary

A disillusioned millennial ghostwriter who, quite literally, has some ghosts of her own, has to find her way back home in this sparkling adult debut from national bestselling author Ashley Poston。

Florence Day is the ghostwriter for one of the most prolific romance authors in the industry, and she has a problem—after a terrible breakup, she no longer believes in love。 It’s as good as dead。

When her new editor, a too-handsome mountain of a man, won’t give her an extension on her book deadline, Florence prepares to kiss her career goodbye。 But then she gets a phone call she never wanted to receive, and she must return home for the first time in a decade to help her family bury her beloved father。

For ten years, she’s run from the town that never understood her, and even though she misses the sound of a warm Southern night and her eccentric, loving family and their funeral parlor, she can’t bring herself to stay。 Even with her father gone, it feels like nothing in this town has changed。 And she hates it。

Until she finds a ghost standing at the funeral parlor’s front door, just as broad and infuriatingly handsome as ever, and he’s just as confused about why he’s there as she is。

Romance is most certainly dead 。 。 。 but so is her new editor, and his unfinished business will have her second-guessing everything she’s ever known about love stories。

Dead serious, this book was fantastic。 I am convinced Ashley Post is my best friend on another time line, because her writing is a relationship。 She is the person you take with you to the bathroom to chat。 She is the person you call when frantic that you said the wrong thing。 You know that Ashley is this person by her prose。 This book had me dying。 I read up to the last five chapters almost too quickly, frantic for answers。 Abruptly I put it down for a day to treasure the adventure it had taken Dead serious, this book was fantastic。 I am convinced Ashley Post is my best friend on another time line, because her writing is a relationship。 She is the person you take with you to the bathroom to chat。 She is the person you call when frantic that you said the wrong thing。 You know that Ashley is this person by her prose。 This book had me dying。 I read up to the last five chapters almost too quickly, frantic for answers。 Abruptly I put it down for a day to treasure the adventure it had taken me on, without answering some of questions about the plot。 I did not want it to end, I feared the inevitable after falling head over headless heels for these characters。 Hysterically I instagram noted that on Ashleys page and she reassured me, just as she would on the other time line where we are best friends, that things would end happily。 Finishing the book this morning, I won't give spoilers, but will certainly say that I loved the ending。This book is a treat。 It is fun, simple, fluffy good while still pulling at heart strings。 I gasped at a couple places (much to my husbands delight) and ghouled at some others。 All dying/ghost puns aside- this was truly a brilliant read, fitting so darn well in my unintentionally "Spooktacular Summer" book picks。 I would say its a 4。5, but 。。。thinking about my separate rating average I believe it does earnestly come out to a full five。 You would be deadly grieved to not add this one to your shelf。 Concept 5/5Setting 5/5Characters 5/5 Plot 5/5Coherence 5/5Romance 4/5Audio Reader 5/5Verdict-This book is to die for。 "To die by your side, is such a heavenly way to die。" 。。。more

This book made me feel an array of emotions from happy to poignant。 It made me laugh and cry。 It was perfectly quirky, and had a great plot with characters and dialogue that made this a fast read。 I loved the main setting of a small town, the mayor is a dog-how perfect is that, and it had a few nice twists along the way。It discusses writers, ghosts, death, family relationships, and romance。 It blends these elements which don’t seem like they would go together into an original read。The Author’s n This book made me feel an array of emotions from happy to poignant。 It made me laugh and cry。 It was perfectly quirky, and had a great plot with characters and dialogue that made this a fast read。 I loved the main setting of a small town, the mayor is a dog-how perfect is that, and it had a few nice twists along the way。It discusses writers, ghosts, death, family relationships, and romance。 It blends these elements which don’t seem like they would go together into an original read。The Author’s note in the Reading Guide at the end of the book is fantastic。 。。。more

Like 3。75/5 stars for me。 Pretty good! I think it had a good storyline that carried through the whole book。 I enjoyed it overall, and I think it was well written。 A more unique story which I appreciated as well。 Definitely of the better romcom books I’ve read recently。

Oh this was so cute! Yes, this was a romance book with your classic romance HEA, but I’ve never read a romance novel quite like this one。 This was funny, tender, and had me feeling so many emotions。 And all of the side characters? LOVED THEM。 Can’t wait to read more from this author!

4。5 starsThis was a book about a woman who can see ghosts falling for the ghost of her very attractive editor。 Didn't even need to read it to give it multiple stars - they had me right from the description。 As much as I love Emily Henry - none of her characters are hot ghosts who love romance novels which is disappointing but this book did have that。 Completely predictable, wonderfully cheesy, and yet also made me wanna tear up at times - what more could you want? First, a huge thank you to Berkley Romance and Ashley Poston for sending me an eARC to read and review! 🥺 I so thoroughly enjoyed myself, and this really got me out of my reading slump!“you don’t ever lose the sadness, but you learn to love it because it becomes a part of you, and bit by bit, it fades。 And, eventually, you’ll pick yourself back up and you’ll find that you’re okay。 That you’re going to be okay。 And eventually, it’ll be true”Knowing just how much I LOVED Ashley’s Geekerella series First, a huge thank you to Berkley Romance and Ashley Poston for sending me an eARC to read and review! 🥺 I so thoroughly enjoyed myself, and this really got me out of my reading slump!“you don’t ever lose the sadness, but you learn to love it because it becomes a part of you, and bit by bit, it fades。 And, eventually, you’ll pick yourself back up and you’ll find that you’re okay。 That you’re going to be okay。 And eventually, it’ll be true”Knowing just how much I LOVED Ashley’s Geekerella series, as soon as I heard she was debuting her adult RomCom, with speculative elements, I knew I had to read it! And she did not disappoint。 Ashley Poston knows how to handle grief so beautifully in her stories。 It’s real, and it’s raw, while also so hopeful。 I feel like grief is often portrayed as this heavy, terrible thing that weighs us down, keeping us from life。 And yes, that is a part of it。 But through this story, Ashley shows us how much more to it there is。 Grief is love。 Love for the people who have left us—which doesn’t end when they’re gone, we take it with us。 Love for the people we still have—who make it easier to get through。 Ashley shows also how joy and grief can live simultaneously, and it’s ok to feel all these things at once。 That death is sad, but it’s also a celebration of life。 “Love wasn’t a whisper in the quiet night。 It was a yelp into the void, screaming that you were here。”This was also, of course, at it’s core a love story。 Florence and Ben are honestly just so perfect for each other! I loved how their relationship developed。 Their banter and wit, their chemistry。 Do you know how engaging chemistry has to be when they LITERALLY CANT TOUCH BECAUSE HE’S A GHOST?! 🤣 It is not easy to do, but Ashley made it seem easy。 I was hooked on them from their first meeting, and I absolutely loved the way it ended。 I will be dreaming of Ben and Florence for a long time to come。 “Worth wasn’t dependent on someone else’s love for you, or your usefulness, or what you could do for them。”Lastly, in this story, Ashley just so eloquently put to words so many things I struggle with myself。 Learning how to unlearn that your worth depends on what you can do for other people, rather than just *being*。 Learning how to let others in, let others help you, let them love you。 Even if you feel you don’t deserve it, because you do。 Learning not to let people walk over you, or use your kindness and your love against you either。 I loved all the little tidbits about the publishing industry, and the things no one likes to talk about。 Authors who are amazing writers but don’t “make it” because they don’t have the right recourses。 How so many writers define their worth by their success, but the only thing that matters is their words finding the people who need to hear them。 I truly cannot wait to read whatever comes next to Ashley, because I know I will love it。 “…we popped champagne and played Dad’s favorite burned CD and danced through the parlors to all the good goodbyes, because endings were just new beginnings。” 。。。more

Oh I was really look forward to this one but it just didn’t work for me。 If this book was a sentient being, it was a confused one and was trying to find itself… ultimately it didn’t。

I was back and forth about what I thought of this book all the way through。 It's 50 pounds of self insert romance fanfic tropes in a 10 pound bag, and not all of them are the cool ones。 It name drops just about every big name romance author and fills other spaces with assorted pop culture references all the way through, coming very close to the point of eye-rolling annoyance。 The male love interest gets little development。 The heroine is so perkily quirky I sometimes wanted to kick her in the sh I was back and forth about what I thought of this book all the way through。 It's 50 pounds of self insert romance fanfic tropes in a 10 pound bag, and not all of them are the cool ones。 It name drops just about every big name romance author and fills other spaces with assorted pop culture references all the way through, coming very close to the point of eye-rolling annoyance。 The male love interest gets little development。 The heroine is so perkily quirky I sometimes wanted to kick her in the shin。But ultimately the exploration of grief in this book was beautiful and the ending was the happy one I hoped for, even if it felt a bit two dimensional。 So: 4 stars out of 5, because this is a low-effort, lighthearted summer read that will sneakily punch you in the feels。 。。。more

Overall, I did like this story。 By the time I made it about 3/4 of the way through I was sort of ready for some of the heavy to pass, and it just kept coming chapter after chapter。 But still, I liked the characters and their meet cute (or maybe it was actually their second meet, I suppose) was pretty unique。 Not sure that I’ll read again, but glad I did at least once。

Well, I was really hoping that this book was as good as the author's young adult books, but it just kind of fell flat。 For me, anyway。 I'm so glad some people have loved this book。 It just seems like the young adult books she writes are so sweet and adorable and I love that。 And this book had ghosts and romance and that is something I would love to read but I'll have to look elsewhere。 I will try and finish this book at a later time。 I got 36% in and put it down and never picked it back up。 Mayb Well, I was really hoping that this book was as good as the author's young adult books, but it just kind of fell flat。 For me, anyway。 I'm so glad some people have loved this book。 It just seems like the young adult books she writes are so sweet and adorable and I love that。 And this book had ghosts and romance and that is something I would love to read but I'll have to look elsewhere。 I will try and finish this book at a later time。 I got 36% in and put it down and never picked it back up。 Maybe I didn't give it enough time。 I'm so sad about it。Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book for an honest opinion。 。。。more

LOVE LOVE LOVE! This book is pure gold。 Go into this one knowing absolutely nothing - I knew the book was about a ghostwriter but I did not expect how much I would fall in love with this contemporary book (or even contemporary romance) with so many themes。 Full review to come to the blog next week! *I was provided with a review copy from the publisher in exchange for review*

Something I’ve come to love about Ashley’s writing (at least of the books I’ve read) is how quirky her main characters are。 Florence is kind of the black sheep of the family, which I always have a soft spot for since I’m the same。 I loved that she was a writer but not the typical main stream kind, and how her relationships with everyone evolved into something different by the end of the story。 Im always a bit hesitant to read authors works when the switch genres, but I think this was a win for A Something I’ve come to love about Ashley’s writing (at least of the books I’ve read) is how quirky her main characters are。 Florence is kind of the black sheep of the family, which I always have a soft spot for since I’m the same。 I loved that she was a writer but not the typical main stream kind, and how her relationships with everyone evolved into something different by the end of the story。 Im always a bit hesitant to read authors works when the switch genres, but I think this was a win for Ashley!
